Congratulations! You just received your Residential Care Facility for the Elderly certification. But you may still have some questions about your certification. Find out the answers below.
How Long Does Your RCFE Certification Last? You need to renew your RCFE certification every two years. Approximately three months before your certification expires, you should receive a letter reminding you about renewal. However, even if you do not receive the letter on time, you still must submit your renewal application prior to the date your certification expires. Otherwise, you may have to pay an additional $300 fee. How Do You Renew an RCFE Certification? To renew your certification, you must send an application along with a $100 non-refundable processing fee to the California Department of Social Services. You also must submit certificates proving completion of 40 hours of Continuing Education Units. Eight of those 40 hours must specifically include instruction in caring for residents with dementia illnesses. Another four hours must feature training in the Department of Social Services' laws and policies. You can take up to 20 hours online, but the remaining hours must be completed in person. Where Do You Get CEUs for RCFE Renewal? You can sign up for CEUs through accredited colleges or universities. You can also earn them through vendors such as Assisted Living Education that have been approved by the Department of Social Services or other State departments.
