Helping the elderly is an important job. If workers in a residential care facility for the elderly do not have the proper experience and knowledge, they could cause injury or illness to the senior citizens. That is why most states have licensing requirements for assisted living administrators. Specifically, those who live in California need to undergo RCFE certification training.
RCFE Administrator Jobs RCFEs are facilities designated for older adults who need assistance with everyday tasks such as eating and bathing. The RCFE administrators oversee these centers and their employees. Because administrators have such extensive responsibilities, most states compel them to obtain proper licensing. RCFE Administrator Licenses The National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Board offers a licensing exam for assisted living administrators. Before they take the test, however, they must receive proper training in a facility. Those with just a high school diploma need at least two years of working experience, including one year as a manager. College graduates, however, don’t need as much experience before taking the test. The American College of HealthCare Administrators also provides a professional credential. Applicants must pass an ACHCA exam and have proper RCFE certification training. Assisted living employees in most states must have enough experience and demonstrate their knowledge before becoming administrators. These strict requirements are necessary to protect the senior citizens in the care facilities. Anybody with an RCFE certification should be ready to comply with the new legislation recently signed by Governor Newsom, known as the "Keep Our Seniors Safe Act." The Act sets new unequivocal gun storage compliance standards for the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division. This act will require assisted living facilities to comply with the new standards in order to maintain their licensing.
This new law comes following other legislation signed by Newsom designed to improve safety standards in assisted living facilities. That law required California assisted living facilities to carry liability insurance. Now the state's agency will also have specific standards by which to evaluate if guns are being safely stored, namely, that they are being stored in a gun safe at a central location within the facility. Due to the vulnerability and need for care experienced by many residents, regulations are a necessary way to protect their quality of life. This attitude is part of what makes it so important for each manager to have an up-to-date RCFE certification. If you are considering getting into a career of management at assisted living facilities, you will need to pay the state for your application. You won't be able to take the exam until you have completed your 80 hour RCFE certification class. Those who have not been in management positions for a long time may find that their certifications have expired. It is possible to renew your license by following the application procedures and proving an additional 40 hours of continued RCFE education. The be effective in the management role, managers will need to stay informed and up-to-date on new laws and procedures, medications, business operations and other topics. It is helpful for those looking to stay viable in their roles to attend seminars and classes on a regular basis so as to stay sharp and with the times. |
