Whether you want to earn your assisted living facility administrator certification or you hope to find a reputable facility for yourself or a loved one to live in during recovery, it is important to choose the right location. What you might not realize is that assisted living facilities don't tell you everything.
Assisted Living Is a Short-Term Solution You might mistakenly think that "assisted living home" is synonymous with "nursing home," but the reality is that an assisted living facility is meant to be a midway point between aging in place and living in a nursing home. The midway points are meant to help with things such as cooking or doing chores, but they don't have as many government regulations as nursing homes, which means they do not provide as much in terms of medical care. Assisted Living Ratings Are Rare If you want to be sure your assisted living facility administrator certification is going to good use, you'll need to do all the legwork yourself. Most states rarely perform inspections for assisted living homes and those who do perform inspections don't often post their records online. Instead, the facility should keep a record of any violations and fines and be willing to provide that information in person upon request. Because the system is so reliant on the facility being forthcoming, it is important to do your own research. Use Google, ask other caregivers or clients about their experiences, tour the facility, and more to ensure you make the right decision. Despite the lack of full-service medical care and state inspections, most assisted living facilities are in operation for the right reason: to help people transition from hospital recovery to home or from home to a nursing home. When searching for a home to work in, ask current employees how they feel about working at the home and pay attention to how they interact with patients. Doing so will help you to determine which one is right for you.
