In the business of assisted living, one of the greatest achievements you can make is becoming a director of your own assisted living facility. However, for some climbing that ladder may seem impossible. With services and courses from a place like Assisted Living Education, you may be able to get there more easily. Here are the steps to becoming a director of your own facility.
The first step is to make sure that you have experience with the elderly. If you already work in assisted living, this step is probably already completed for you. If not, then you can get the experience by volunteering or getting a job in a facility. The next step is to make sure that you have obtained a college degree and completed the RCFE training required in your area to work with the elderly. Once you have completed the necessary training, you can apply for a license to become a director. Obtaining a license for directing an assisted living facility is about more than just coursework. Be sure that you schedule an exam date and complete a registration form. There will often be a testing fee that you will have to pay while registering for the examination. Once you have completed the examination, it is time to apply for the certification. For certification, in addition to the examination you must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience as an assisted living administrator. All of these steps may make it seem like it will take a long time to become a director. However, if you already have your Bachelor’s degree and get a job in an assisted living facility, it should be relatively simple to complete extra schooling while you are getting your experience requirement. In order to become a director of an assisted living facility, look into what you can do and who you can turn to for help when completing your certification and coursework.
