There are a number of noble careers available for those interested in working with the elderly, but managing and directing the operation of an assisted living facility is among the top. However, it is not a job that is easy to come by. Being a facility director takes hard work and dedication. However, if you are interested in running an assisted living facility, then the career plan is pretty straightforward, and it will require caregiver training for RCFE.
Gain Experience The first thing you will want to do is gain some experience in the field, especially if you are just starting out. You can find a variety of entry-level positions as well as volunteer opportunities at community senior centers, nursing homes, hospice care or other similar facilities. Essentially, these positions will allow you to test the waters of your chosen career path and determine if it is really what you want. Earn a Degree While not every state will require a four-year or graduate degree, most will expect you to complete at least a two-year program. However, while state minimums may vary, often facilities will specify their own qualifications, which may include a bachelor's or master's degree in health-care administration. Complete Training and Get Certified You will most likely need to complete administrative and caregiver training for RCFE certification and licensure. The training will also include the successful completion and passing of a state licensing exam. Again, requirements will vary by state. Apply Once you have completed your training and passed your exams, you can feel free to apply for a position as a director. However, the availability of such a title may depend on your experience and education level. Completing the academic and caregiver training for RCFE certification are only a part of the journey to becoming a director of an assisted living facility. Your experience and dedication to the field will also likely weigh heavily on job prospects. If you would like to discuss this career further, then contact an RCFE training facility in your area.
