To work as an administrator in a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly, you will need to get an RCFE certification from the State of California. The Department of Social Services’ Community Care and Licensing Division regulates requirements for licensing. Here are some of the things that you will need to go about getting certified. You Must Complete an RCFE Certification Course The first component of certification is completing a mandatory course. The Community Care and Licensing Division has a list of state-approved vendors that may offer educational courses for certification. Courses have an intensive curriculum covering a wide range of subject areas that include key standards in care provision and regulatory compliance. A course that meets the state’s requirements must be at least 80 hours in duration. Every two years, you will need to complete an additional 40 hours of study every two years to maintain an active license. You May Take a Course Online To fastrack and simplify the educational component of RCFE certification, you can enroll in online classes. Most of the course will be taught by an instructor in a virtual classroom environment, but you may complete some of your coursework at your own pace. You Need to Pass the State’s RCFE Certification Exam The course that you take has to provide you with the core competencies that you need to serve as an administrator in an RCFE, and it also has to prepare you to pass an exam testing your knowledge. The exam is multiple choice, and you may use your course materials and notes for reference.
